Make AI visuals worth publishing

  • Use AI for concepts and illustrative scenes; preserve real evidence for products, places and results.
  • Compare tools on accepted outputs, editing effort, privacy and rights, not their best demo.
  • Approve the still, then the motion, then the final crop, copy and disclosure before publishing.

Which marketing jobs suit AI?

Start by deciding what the image needs to prove. A clay illustration can explain an abstract business idea. A photograph of a hotel room, product label or completed installation makes a factual promise. Our recommendation is to use generated imagery freely for clearly illustrative concepts, and preserve real source material when customers need to see what they will actually receive.

Useful first experiments include an article illustration, a campaign mood board, an abstract background or a storyboard. For product work, begin with an approved photograph and define the parts that must not change. For a service business, an honest diagram can explain the offer better than a synthetic meeting around a laptop.

We would avoid invented customer testimonials, fabricated before-and-after evidence and generated premises presented as real. A small disclosure cannot make an inaccurate product representation useful. If the image changes the buying promise, the business owner needs to assess that change before the asset is approved.

The decision is not whether AI looks realistic. It is whether the visual communicates the intended idea without creating a false impression. Put that purpose at the top of the brief, before choosing a generator or a style.

Which tool should we try?

The fits below are our recommendations based on the documented capabilities, not a laboratory ranking. Run the same brief in a small shortlist and compare usable results. A tool can be excellent for exploration while creating too much repair work for your production process.

ToolUseful first jobAdvantage to testTradeoff to check
ChatGPT ImagesA concept refined through conversation.Create images and edit an uploaded image using instructions.Check every required detail after each edit. Features.
Adobe FireflyImage concepts and edits within a creative workflow.Image and video generation, background changes and other editing features. The app includes partner models; record which model you used. Features.
MidjourneyExploring alternative visual directions.Image generation with several subscription capacity options.Creations are open by default; Stealth requires an eligible plan. Plans.
Canva Magic MediaAn image or short clip placed into a design.Generate images, graphics and video from descriptions in the editor.Check usage allowance and the rights of any library material. Features.
RunwayA short motion concept or footage edit.Video generation and prompt-based editing through Edit Studio.Track credits and inspect the complete clip. Edit Studio.
HiggsfieldA directed camera or scene experiment.Cinema Studio offers camera, lens and directing controls with interchangeable models. The chosen model and input rights still matter. Cinema Studio.

For a small team, the best starting point may be the approved tool already in its workflow. Add another subscription only when it solves an observed problem. We do not claim that DLVX uses every product in this comparison.

What should we budget for?

As of October 2026, Adobe lists Firefly Standard at US$9.99 per month with 2,000 monthly generative credits, and Firefly Pro at US$19.99 with 4,000. Check the selected individual or business offer, billing commitment and local checkout. Adobe's current plans.

Midjourney lists monthly Basic, Standard, Pro and Mega subscriptions at US$10, US$30, US$60 and US$120 respectively. Annual commitments have different effective monthly prices. Midjourney's plan comparison. Runway displays Standard at US$12 per month when billed annually, with 625 monthly credits. That is an annual billing offer, not a US$12 rolling monthly commitment. Runway pricing.

These are selected reference prices checked for this guide, not a complete shopping list. Taxes, exchange rates, local offers and additional usage can change the payable amount. We omit a fixed price for products where this research did not establish the exact comparable local offer.

Our recommended budget worksheet has five lines: subscriptions, extra generation usage, human selection, editing and localisation, and final review. Divide the total by approved assets that actually get used. Count discarded generations and abandoned experiments in the cost. A cheap subscription can still produce an expensive campaign when every output needs extensive repair.

For a complete recurring budget, use our business AI cost guide. Set a trial allowance and a stopping rule before generating. If the product shape remains wrong after the agreed attempts, switch to photography, compositing or an illustrator. More attempts are not automatically the economical answer.

How do we avoid the cheap AI look?

We recommend a short visual brief with six decisions: one audience, one message, one subject, one palette, one lighting direction and the final format. Attach a reference you have permission to use. Explain what to preserve and what to change. A collection of unrelated beautiful references gives the reviewer no stable standard.

An illustrative brief you can adapt

Create a soft clay scene showing a white pebble mascot sorting plain envelopes. Use a warm paper background, soft directional shadows and one rust accent. Keep room for a headline added later in the page layout. No people, vendor logos, lettering or invented interface screens. The envelopes illustrate organising enquiries; they do not represent real customer correspondence.

Choose one visual family across a series. Compare material, camera height, background colour and subject scale. Add the final headline and logo in the design layout so the team can proofread, translate and revise them independently of the image.

Approve at the size customers will see

Inspect the full-size asset for malformed edges, unwanted symbols and inconsistent shadows. Then inspect the actual mobile crop. A clean wide scene can become confusing when the subject is cropped away. Ask whether the visual explains the message without relying on a caption to rescue it.

Use a rejection list: wrong product, accidental brand mark, fake text, inconsistent mascot, confusing silhouette or misleading setting. These are our suggested review criteria, not measured failure rates for any named tool. Keep the best accepted reference beside the next generation so quality is judged consistently.

When is motion worth adding?

Motion should add information, atmosphere or emphasis. Our recommendation is to approve the still image and the intended action before generating a clip. Describe what moves, what stays fixed, where the camera goes and what the final frame must show. A product turning slowly needs a different test from a scene transition.

Keep the first experiment to one understandable action. Review it at normal speed, then pause at several points to check changing shapes, labels and backgrounds. Review the loop boundary if the clip will repeat. Have someone assess the final edit without seeing the prompt: can they tell what the business is trying to say?

Different features inside the same product can behave differently. Canva distinguishes Magic Media text-to-video from its Image to Video feature, which adds motion to an existing image. Do not assume the clip length, audio or limits are identical. Canva's feature distinction.

Budget for editing, captions, music clearance and alternative crops after generation. A generated shot is one component of a finished marketing asset. For a website hero, test whether a static image communicates the offer more clearly, and make sure visitors can comfortably read the page.

Can we use it commercially?

Use the business data policy guide for upload rules and approved accounts. Separate three questions: does the vendor permit commercial use, do you have rights to the inputs, and can anyone claim rights in the output? A subscription answers only part of that. Keep the source files, permissions, tool, model, date and approval record with the accepted asset.

Runway says it places no non-commercial restriction on generated content and describes ownership as between the user and Runway. That is not clearance of other people's rights. Runway commercial use. Canva's terms say outputs may not be unique, and library content retains its applicable licence. Canva AI terms.

Midjourney requires Pro or Mega for companies above US$1 million in annual gross revenue to use their creations commercially. Check the current terms for your organisation. Its privacy guidance also says private Discord messages alone do not make creations private on the website; eligible Stealth settings matter. Commercial terms; privacy guidance.

Higgsfield's terms require the necessary rights and consents for inputs, including identifiable people and voices. Its enterprise agreement has different provisions from its general service terms. Review the agreement your account actually uses before uploading confidential material. Higgsfield terms.

Do not promise exclusive copyright simply because a vendor permits use. For example, the US Copyright Office says protection depends on sufficient human authorship; prompts alone do not establish it. That is US guidance, not a ruling for Thailand or every European jurisdiction. US Copyright Office. Get jurisdiction-specific advice when ownership is central to a campaign or brand asset.

When should we say it is AI generated?

Our practical recommendation is to make the nature of an illustration clear whenever viewers could reasonably mistake it for evidence. A conceptual room design should be labelled as a concept. A synthetic presenter should not be introduced as a real customer. Keep a record of what the client approved and where the disclosure appears.

For EU use, Article 50 transparency obligations apply from 2 August 2026. The European Commission distinguishes provider marking duties from a business user's duties to disclose qualifying deepfakes. The latter can cover misleading representations of people, objects, places or events. It does not mean every clearly stylised clay illustration needs an identical warning. Scope and presentation matter. Commission Article 50 guidance.

The Commission says an applicable visible disclosure cannot simply be replaced by hidden machine-readable marking. Preserve available provenance information and check the publishing platform's current disclosure requirements for the particular content before release. We do not claim one label satisfies every country's advertising, privacy or intellectual property rules.

Common mistakes and the final check

  • Approving a striking image before checking what it implies about the product.
  • Letting each post introduce a different visual style.
  • Using a private message or paid plan as proof of confidentiality.
  • Counting generation speed while ignoring editing and rejected outputs.
  • Reviewing only the first frame of a video.
  • Assuming commercial permission guarantees exclusive rights.

Before publication, name the person responsible for product accuracy, rights, copy and final visual review. Check the actual mobile crop, destination page and exported file. Confirm that labels and subtitles are readable, and that any disclosure remains visible in the published format.

For this academy, we use a consistent pebble clay visual direction and review the imagery in the page layout. The useful lesson is the shared brief and acceptance criteria, not an endorsement of every generator listed here.

Your next step is one real asset with a clear job. Test a small shortlist, record the total work and compare the accepted result with your existing method. Keep the tool if it improves the finished marketing material at a cost the team can maintain.
